Safety Training Program

The OCCS Safety Training Program provides free, in-person training for UCLA students, faculty, and staff. Each session combines presentation with scenario-based exercises so participants leave with skills they can apply immediately.

Course Offerings

The program currently offers three courses. All are open to students, faculty, and staff with no prerequisites required.

Active Assailant

Learn the response framework for active assailant situations on campus. This session covers threat recognition, rapid decision-making, evacuation strategies, barricade techniques, and how to coordinate with law enforcement when they arrive.

Safety Preparedness

Build the awareness and habits that prevent incidents before they happen. Covers situational awareness, personal safety strategies, threat identification and reporting, and how to use campus safety systems like BruinALERT and the Bruins Safe app.

Emergency Preparedness

Prepare for earthquakes, wildfires, power outages, and other emergencies that affect campus. Covers emergency supply planning, evacuation routes, shelter-in-place protocols, communication during disruptions, and your role in UCLA’s emergency response.

  • Greek life, club sports, and student organizations can book group sessions

  • We deliver training on-site at your department, customized to your building and operations
  • Additional context on duty-of-care responsibilities and post-incident support for managers
  • Completion confirmation provided for personnel records
  • Work with our team to tailor scenarios to your department’s specific risk profile
