Lisa Martin
Director of the Office of Emergency Management
Lisa Martin is the Director of UCLA’s Office of Emergency Management (OEM). She has led the office since July 2020, overseeing the university’s preparedness, emergency response, and recovery operations.
A first-generation UC graduate, Director Martin holds a bachelor’s degree in political science and a master’s in organizational management. Prior to her UCLA tenure, she served as the Director of Emergency Management at UC Riverside, where she was the only certified planner in the UC system at the time.
She is a FEMA Emergency Management graduate with a career spanning business continuity and emergency preparedness in both higher education and the financial sector. Her leadership experience included key roles at Capital Group, US Bank, Downey Savings & Loan, and UC Riverside. A respected voice in the field, she has chaired the UC system-wide Emergency Management Council, presented at national and international conferences, including the International Association of Emergency Managers (IAEM) and is often called to facilitate training and exercises for senior leadership teams across educational institutions.
At UCLA, Martin plays a central role in operational emergency readiness, overseeing the Emergency Operations Center (EOC), which functions under her direction to support strategic decision-making, coordination, and incident response across campus.
Her vision for the OEM is rooted in resilience: preparing the diverse Bruin community not only to respond effectively in emergencies but also to recover swiftly and safely, preserving the university’s mission of excellence in teaching, research, and service.
